Foundations of thoughtlessness know not I;

Do not even know who is that I;

And pray I do to you, do not know you, how do I know I?

Methods of meditation, I strive to learn;

Various types of yoga, I try to learn;

But still know not, who is that I that learns;

And searching what is that I, what is it that learns?

This body shall go, coma may come and go;

But will this I go, who is that I that will never go?

Read and heard, this spirit is ‘I’;

But never felt me, how do I know this ‘I’?

Beyond thoughts, beyond mind is this ‘I’;

But cannot comprehend, my mind does not let it go.

Beyond thoughts, beyond mind, how do I go?

Salvation is beyond me, when I don’t know me.

Who is to free, who is it that is in bondage, I don’t know;

Who does not know, who is asking questions, do not know.

Read ‘I’ is the spirit, who is that spirit, do not know;

‘Jeevatma’ and ‘Soul’, but who is the soul do not know?

Experiencing is believing, but who experiences, do not know;

Knowledge paves, beyond knowledge what beholds do not know.

Meditation, concentration know not I;
