He drained the satisar lake in Kashmir valley to make it habitable. Thus Kashmir is named on Kashyap rishi (wise saint). He is also one of the sapt (seven) rishi. He married 13 daughters of Prajapati Daksh. Through Aditi, he gave birth to devas and from Diti gave birth to Danavas (demons). He is also father of Nagas (serpent race), humankind and every form of living being. Thus, anyone’s gotra would be Kashyap gotra. He wrote Kashyap Samhita which is based on pediatrics and gynecology.
